The User Register widget by Atomic Addons puts a sign-up form for your WordPress site on any page. Visitors register with their name and email, and optionally choose a password and accept your terms, without leaving the page. You can sign new users in straight away and send them to another page. This guide covers adding the widget and its settings.

Enable the User Register Widget

User Register is a Free widget and works with the free Atomic Addons plugin. Switch it on from the plugin dashboard:

  1. 1

Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons.

  2. 2

    Click the Widgets tab.

  3. 3

Search for User Register. You can also open the Forms / User category.

  4. 4

Turn the User Register widget on.

  5. 5

    Click Save Settings.

The form works only while WordPress allows registration. Go to Settings → General, tick Membership → Anyone can register and click Save Changes. The New User Default Role on the same screen is the role new accounts get. While registration is off, the widget shows a reminder in the editor and nothing to visitors.

Add the User Register Widget

  1. 1

Open the page in Elementor (Edit with Elementor).

  2. 2

In the widget panel, search for User Register. The widget sits in the Atomic Addons category.

  3. 3

Drag it into the page and set it up with the controls below.

  4. 4

    Click Publish (or Update).

Forms Layout

Open the widget and go to Content → Forms Layout:

  1. 1

Labels: Shows the labels above the fields. On by default. When it is off, the labels are hidden from view but stay in the page for screen readers.

  2. 2

Input Size: The height of the fields: Small, Default or Large.

  3. 3

Button Text: The text of the submit button, “Register” by default. It accepts dynamic tags.

  4. 4

Button Size: Small, Default or Large.

  5. 5

Alignment: Left, center or right places the form on that side of the column. Justified stretches the button across the form. Use the device icon to set it per screen size.

  6. 6

Remove First Name / Remove Last Name: The form starts with required First Name and Last Name fields. Turn these on to leave either out.

  7. 7

Terms Field: Adds a required checkbox, “I agree to the Terms and Conditions”, under the fields. Terms Link is the page the words “Terms and Conditions” link to; it opens in a new tab.

The Email field is always there and required. The email becomes the new account's username, and an email address that already has an account is refused with “An account already exists with this email address.”

Additional Options

Content → Additional Options sets what happens after sign-up and which extra fields and links appear:

  1. 1

Redirect After Register: Turn it on and enter a URL to send new users there after they register.

  2. 2

Auto Login After Register: Signs new users in as soon as their account is created. Without a redirect, the page then reloads to show them signed in.

  3. 3

Lost your password?: A “Lost your password?” link under the button, to WordPress's password reset page.

  4. 4

Login Link: A “Login” link under the button, to the WordPress login page.

  5. 5

Logged In Message: What signed-in visitors see in place of the form: “You are logged in as” and their name, with a Logout button. On by default. Turn it off and the widget shows nothing to signed-in visitors.

  6. 6

Add Password Field: A required Password field so visitors choose their own password. Without it, WordPress makes a password for them and emails them a link to set their own.

  7. 7

Confirm Password Field: With the password field on: a second field that must match, or the form says “Passwords do not match.”

  8. 8

Toggle Password: An eye button in each password field that shows or hides the password. On by default.

  9. 9

Custom Labels: Turn it on to change the label and placeholder of each field: first name (“John”), last name (“Doe”), email (“example@email.com”), password and confirm password, and the Terms Label. A custom terms label becomes the whole linked sentence. Label fields appear only while Labels is on.

After a successful sign-up the form shows “You have successfully registered to” and your site name, and clears the fields, unless a redirect or auto login takes the visitor to another page. WordPress sends its usual new-account emails to the user and to the site admin.

To give visitors one place to sign in and sign up, link the two widgets: turn on Register Link with a custom URL in the User Login widget, and point it at the page that holds this one.

Style the User Register

Everything below is on the Style tab. Sections for features you turned off are hidden.

  • Form — the fields' text color, background, border, border radius, padding, typography and hover border color; the label color and typography; the password eye's color and hover color; and the terms text's color, typography and link colors.
  • Button — text color, background, typography, border, border radius, padding and hover colors.
  • Links — the color of the lost password and login links.
  • Logged In Message — the gap, text color, name color and typography, and the logout button's colors, border, radius, padding and typography in Normal and Hover states.
