The Post Info widget by Atomic Addons shows details about a blog post, such as its author, publish date and number of comments, as a row or list of items with icons. You build the list item by item, and each item can link to its archive. This guide covers adding the widget, every item type and the style settings.
Enable the Post Info Widget
Post Info is a Pro widget and needs Atomic Addons Pro. Switch it on from the plugin dashboard:
- 1
Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons.
- 2
Click the Widgets tab.
- 3
Search for Post Info. You can also open the Posts / Dynamic category.
- 4
Turn the Post Info widget on.
- 5
Click Save Settings.
Add the Post Info Widget
The widget belongs in a Theme Builder template for blog posts, usually under the title:
- 1
Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons → Theme Builder.
- 2
Click Add New and choose the Single Post card.
- 3
Give the template a name and open it in Elementor. Its display condition is already set to Singular → All singular. A Single Post template is only used for single blog posts, so it applies to every post as soon as you publish it.
- 4
In the widget panel, search for Post Info and drag it into the template. The widget sits in the Atomic Addons Pro (Single) category.
- 5
Set it up with the controls below, then click Publish.
On your site, each post shows its own details. The widget reads the post WordPress is showing and does not switch to the template's sample post itself, so in the editor it can show the template's own author and date. Check the result on a published post.
The widget is not limited to templates: it is in the panel on any page you edit with Elementor, where it shows the details of that page or post.
Meta Data
Select the widget and open the Content tab. The Meta Data section starts with Layout: Inline (the default) puts the items in a row, Default stacks them as a list.
Below it is the list of items. A new widget has four: Author, Date, Time and Comments. Click an item to open it, drag items to reorder them, and use Add Item to add more. Each item has these settings:
- 1
Type: What the item shows: Author, Date, Time, Comments, Terms or Custom. The settings below depend on it.
- 2
Before: Text printed before the value, such as “By” or “Posted on”. Not shown for Custom.
- 3
Link: On by default. Turns the item into a link: the author's posts, the archive of the post's day, the post's comments, each term's archive, or the Custom URL. Time items have no link.
- 4
Icon: Custom (the default), Default or None. With Custom, pick it under Choose Icon; if you leave that empty, the type's default icon is used. Hidden when the author's avatar is on.
Item Types
- Author — the post author's display name. Turn on Avatar to show their profile picture in place of the icon, and set its Size.
- Date — the publish date. Date Format offers Default, “March 6, 2018 (F j, Y)”, “2018-03-06 (Y-m-d)”, “03/06/2018 (m/d/Y)”, “06/03/2018 (d/m/Y)” and Custom. Default is “March 6, 2018” style, not your site's date setting. Custom shows Custom Date Format (default
F j, Y), where you type PHP date letters such asl D d j S F m M n Y y. - Time — the publish time. Time Format offers Default (“3:31 pm”), “3:31 pm (g:i a)”, “3:31 PM (g:i A)”, “15:31 (H:i)” and Custom, which shows Custom Time Format (default
g:i a). - Comments — the number of comments, as “No Comments”, “One Comment” or “%s Comments”. Turn on Custom Format to change the three texts under No Comments, One Comment and Comments; keep
%sin the last one where the number goes. The item is hidden on posts with comments closed. - Terms — the post's terms in the Taxonomy you choose, such as Categories or Tags, separated by commas. With Link on, each term links to its archive.
- Custom — your own text in the Custom field, linked to the Custom URL when Link is on. Both fields accept dynamic tags.
An item with nothing to show is left out: a Terms item on a post without terms, a Comments item when comments are closed, or an empty Custom item.
Style the Post Info
The Style tab has three sections:
- List — Space Between the items, Alignment (start, center or end) and a Divider between items with its Style (solid, double, dotted or dashed), Weight, Width, Height and Color.
- Icon — icon Color in Normal and Hover tabs, and icon Size.
- Text — Text Color in Normal and Hover tabs, Indent (the gap between icon and text) and Typography.
