The Instagram Feed widget by Atomic Addons shows the latest posts of your Instagram account as a grid of square tiles. Each tile can link to the post on Instagram, and videos and multi-photo posts carry a small icon in the corner. The posts load straight from Instagram with an access token, with no other plugin needed. This guide covers connecting your account, adding the widget and setting up the grid.
Enable the Instagram Feed Widget
Instagram Feed is a Pro widget and needs Atomic Addons Pro. Switch it on from the plugin dashboard:
- 1
Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons.
- 2
Click the Widgets tab.
- 3
Search for Instagram Feed. You can also open the Marketing category.
- 4
Turn the Instagram Feed widget on.
- 5
Click Save Settings.
Connect Your Instagram Account
The widget reads the posts of the account that an access token belongs to. Create a long-lived Instagram user access token through a Meta app (see the Instagram API documentation), then save it once for the whole site:
- 1
Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons → Settings.
- 2
In Instagram API, paste the token into Instagram Access Token.
- 3
Click Save Settings.
Every Instagram Feed widget on the site shows the posts of that account. Without a token, the editor shows a notice with a Go to Settings link in place of the grid; visitors see nothing.
Keep your access token private. It is used only on the server, so it never appears in the page source. If the grid suddenly stops loading, the token may have expired: create a new one and paste it in the same field.
Add the Instagram Feed Widget
- 1
Open the page in Elementor (Edit with Elementor).
- 2
In the widget panel, search for Instagram Feed. The widget sits in the Atomic Addons Pro category.
- 3
Drag it into the page and set it up with the controls below.
- 4
Click Publish (or Update).
Layout
Content → Layout holds all of the widget's settings:
- 1
Number of posts: How many posts to show, 1 to 50: 12 by default. The newest come first.
- 2
Columns: 1 to 6 columns: 4 by default, 3 on tablets and 2 on phones. Use the device icon to change the tablet and phone numbers.
- 3
Gap: The space between tiles, 10px by default.
- 4
Link to: Instagram post, the default, makes each tile a link to its post. None shows the images without links.
- 5
Open in new tab: Shown while the tiles are links: opens the post in a new tab. On by default.
- 6
Cache duration (minutes): How long the widget keeps a copy of the posts before asking Instagram again, 5 to 10080 minutes (one week). 60 by default. A new post appears on your site once the copy is refreshed.
Each tile is cropped to a square. For a video, the tile shows its cover image. When the tiles are links, pointing at a tile darkens it slightly, and the post's caption serves as the link's name for screen readers.
If Instagram refuses the token or the account has no posts, the editor shows a notice and the widget waits five minutes before trying again.
Style the Instagram Feed
The Style tab has one section, Style:
- Image border radius — rounds the corners of the tiles.
- Overlay on hover — the color laid over a tile when it is pointed at, a semi-transparent black by default. Shown while the tiles are links.
