The Post Video Slider widget by Atomic Addons shows one post at a time as a large slide, with a playlist of thumbnails below it. Each slide shows the featured image, category, title, author and date. If the post has a YouTube or Vimeo link, a play button appears and the video plays right in the slide. This guide covers adding a video link to your posts, adding the widget and setting it up.

Enable the Post Video Slider Widget

Post Video Slider is a Pro widget and needs Atomic Addons Pro. Switch it on from the plugin dashboard:

  1. 1

Go to WordPress Dashboard → Atomic Addons.

  2. 2

    Click the Widgets tab.

  3. 3

Search for Post Video Slider. You can also open the Posts / Dynamic category.

  4. 4

Turn the Post Video Slider widget on.

  5. 5

    Click Save Settings.

Add a Video to Your Posts

The widget takes each post's video from a field that Atomic Addons adds to the post editor:

  1. 1

Go to Posts and open a post for editing.

  2. 2

Find the Atomic Addons Additional box. In the block editor it is in the meta box area below the content or in the sidebar.

  3. 3

Paste the video's address into Video Link, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=…, https://youtu.be/… or https://vimeo.com/….

  4. 4

    Click Update (or Publish).

The box only appears on posts, not on pages or other post types. Posts without a link, or with a link that is not from YouTube or Vimeo, still show as slides, but without a play button.

Add the Post Video Slider Widget

Post Video Slider works on any page:

  1. 1

Open the page in Elementor (Edit with Elementor).

  2. 2

In the widget panel, search for Post Video Slider. The widget sits in the Atomic Addons Pro category.

  3. 3

Drag it into the page and set it up with the controls below.

  4. 4

    Click Publish (or Update).

When a visitor clicks the play button, the video loads over the slide and starts playing. Moving to another slide stops it.

Layout

Open the widget and go to Content → Layout:

  1. 1

Slider Height: The height of the main slide, in px, % or vh. If you leave it empty, the height adjusts to the screen width, between 350px and 600px.

  2. 2

Image Size: Which image size WordPress serves for the main slides. Full by default. Posts without a featured image show a placeholder.

  3. 3

Thumbnail Size: Which image size WordPress serves for the playlist, Thumbnail by default.

  4. 4

Title: The post title, on the slide and in the playlist. On by default. On the slide it links to the post.

  5. 5

Title HTML Tag: The title's markup: H1 to H6, div, span or p. H3 by default.

  6. 6

Category: The post's categories, above the title. On by default.

  7. 7

Author: The author's name, linked to their posts. On by default.

  8. 8

Separator: The character between the author, date and reading time, · by default.

  9. 9

Date: The publish date. On by default. Human Different Time shows the age instead, such as “3 days ago”, and Time Short Format shortens hours, minutes and seconds. Without it, Show Time adds the publish time.

  10. 10

Reading Time: An estimate such as “2 min 30 sec read”. Off by default. Reading Speed sets the words per minute, 200 by default.

To hide the meta row, turn off Author, Date and Reading Time.

The playlist shows two thumbnails at a time, three from 768px and four from 1440px. Clicking one opens that slide, and the playlist follows the main slider.

Query

Content → Query decides which posts appear:

  1. 1

Item Limit: How many posts the slider holds, from 0 to 20 in steps of 5. 5 by default. At 0, the Limit below is used instead.

  2. 2

Source: Posts is the default. You can also pick Pages or any other public post type on your site, but only posts can have a video link. Manual Selection shows only the posts you search for and pick under Search & Select. Current Query shows the posts of the page being viewed, such as a category archive or search results. The editor may not show them until you save and reload. Related works on a single post: it shows posts of the same type by the same author.

  3. 3

Limit: A number field, 6 by default. It only applies when Item Limit is 0.

  4. 4

Include / Exclude: Include By keeps only posts in the Terms you pick (categories, tags, formats or custom taxonomies) or by the Authors you pick. Exclude By leaves out terms, authors, the Current Post or posts you pick with Manual Selection.

  5. 5

Offset: Skips this many posts from the start of the list. 0 by default.

  6. 6

Date: All (the default), or only posts from the past day, week, month, quarter or year. Choose Custom to set a Before and an After date.

  7. 7

Order By: Date (the default), Title, ID, Author, Comment Count, Menu Order, Last Modified or Random.

  8. 8

Order: DESC (the default) shows the newest posts or the highest values first. ASC reverses the order.

  9. 9

Ignore Sticky Posts: Posts source only. Keeps sticky posts in their normal place instead of putting them first. On by default.

Only Featured Image Post leaves out posts without a featured image. Query ID is for developers: it gives the query a name that custom code can filter.

The query does not check for a video link. To show only video posts, put them in a category or tag, or give them the Video post format, and pick that term under Include By → Terms. You can also pick them with Manual Selection.

Slider Settings

Content → Slider Settings controls how the slides change. Visitors can also swipe or drag, or click a thumbnail.

  1. 1

Autoplay: Moves to the next slide by itself. Off by default.

  2. 2

Autoplay Speed: How long each slide stays, in milliseconds. 5000 (5 seconds) by default.

  3. 3

Grab Cursor: Shows a hand cursor over the slides, a hint that they can be dragged.

  4. 4

Loop: Starts again from the first post after the last one. On by default. It applies to the playlist too.

  5. 5

Animation Speed (ms): How long the fade takes, 500 by default.

  6. 6

Observer: Turn it on when the slider sits in a tab, an accordion or a popup that is hidden when the page loads.

Style the Post Video Slider

Everything below is on the Style tab. Sections that belong to a feature you turned off are hidden.

  • Image — the main slide's border radius.
  • Play Button — size and icon size, with icon color, background, border and radius in Normal and Hover states.
  • Title — color and typography, with a Hover color.
  • Category — the category labels in Normal and Hover states.
  • Meta — color, hover color, space between, separator color and typography.
  • Thumbnail — the playlist's width and vertical spacing. ITEM sets each thumbnail's padding, radius and background (Normal and Active). Image sets the radius. PLAYICON styles the small play icon in Normal, Hover and Active states. TITLE sets colors, including Active colors. TOPBAR sets the color and size of the bar on the current thumbnail.

If no post matches the query, the widget shows nothing.
