The Post Vertical Timeline widget by Atomic Addons lists your posts down a vertical line. Each post has a numbered marker on the line, with its date, title, text, category and comment count beside it. The line can run down the left side, the right side or the center. In the center, the posts switch sides. This guide covers adding the widget, setting up the layout and choosing the posts.

Layout
Open the widget and go to Content → Layout:
- 1
Position: Where the line runs: Left, Center (the default) or Right. With Center, posts switch sides on screens 768px and wider. On phones, the line moves to the left.
- 2
Alignment: Left (the default), center or right alignment of the text in each post. Use the device icon to set it per screen size.
- 3
Show Start/End: A Start marker at the top of the line and an End marker at the bottom. On by default.
- 4
Show Image: The featured image at the top of each post, linked to the post. Off by default. Once on, Image Resolution chooses the size, Medium by default. Posts without a featured image show a placeholder.
- 5
Title: The post title, linked to the post. On by default.
- 6
Title HTML Tag: The title's markup: H1 to H6, div, span or p. H3 by default.
- 7
Show Text: A short text under the title. If the post has a manual excerpt, the full excerpt is shown. If not, the text is taken from the post content: Text Limit sets the number of words (20 by default, 0 for the full content), Ellipsis adds text after it, and Strip Shortcode (on by default) removes shortcodes.
- 8
Show Date: The publish date, above the title. On by default. Human Different Time shows the age instead, such as “3 days ago”, and Time Short Format shortens hours, minutes and seconds. Without it, Show Time adds the publish time.
- 9
Show Category: The post's categories, at the start of the meta row under the text. On by default.
- 10
Show Comments: The comment count, such as “3 Comments”. On by default.
- 11

Reading Time: An estimate such as “2 min 30 sec read”, in the meta row. Off by default. Reading Speed sets the words per minute, 200 by default.
- 13
Pagination: Page numbers under the timeline. Each page shows as many posts as the Item Limit. Off by default.
- 14
Item Wrapper Link: Makes the whole post clickable. A click opens the post in the same tab. The panel warns that the title link stops working while this is on.
The widget does not show the author.
Query
Content → Query decides which posts appear:
- 1
Item Limit: How many posts the timeline shows, 1 to 20. 6 by default. With pagination on, this is the number per page.
- 2
Source: Posts is the default. You can also pick Pages or any other public post type on your site. Manual Selection shows only the posts you search for and pick under Search & Select. Current Query shows the posts of the page being viewed, such as a category archive or search results. The editor may not show them until you save and reload. Related works on a single post: it shows posts of the same type by the same author.
- 3
Limit: A number field, 6 by default. Item Limit above takes its place, so set the number of posts there.
- 4
Include / Exclude: Include By keeps only posts in the Terms you pick (categories, tags, formats or custom taxonomies) or by the Authors you pick. Exclude By leaves out terms, authors, the Current Post or posts you pick with Manual Selection.
- 5
Offset: Skips this many posts from the start of the list. 0 by default.
- 6
Date: All (the default), or only posts from the past day, week, month, quarter or year. Choose Custom to set a Before and an After date.
- 7
Order By: Date (the default), Title, ID, Author, Comment Count, Menu Order, Last Modified or Random.
- 8
Order: DESC (the default) shows the newest posts or the highest values first. ASC reverses the order.
- 9
Ignore Sticky Posts: Posts source only. Keeps sticky posts in their normal place instead of putting them first. On by default.
Only Featured Image Post leaves out posts without a featured image. Query ID is for developers: it gives the query a name that custom code can filter.
With Current Query, the page's own query decides which posts show and in what order. The include, exclude, date and order settings are hidden.
Style the Post Vertical Timeline
Everything below is on the Style tab. Sections that belong to a feature you turned off are hidden.
- Timeline — three tabs. LINE: Line Style (Solid by default, Dashed, Dotted, Double or Groove), color and width. NUMBER: the numbered marker's color, background, radius and typography, with Hover colors. START/END: the markers' color, background, radius and typography.
- Items — Offset (the space between posts), Gap, and each post's background, border, radius and padding.
- Image — border and radius.
- Title — a hover underline style, color, hover color, typography, text shadow and spacing.
- Text, Date and Meta — colors, typography and spacing. Meta also has a hover color, a separator color and Space Between.
- Pagination — alignment and the page numbers in Normal, Hover and Active states.
If no post matches the query, the widget shows nothing.
