Four swatch types
Colour, image, label and button. Each attribute chooses its own type, so Colour can render as circles while Size renders as labels on the same product.
Shape and size you control
Circle, square, rounded corners or your theme's own styling, at a global pixel size or a custom width and height set per attribute.
Three levels of override
A global default, an attribute-level setting, and a per-product override. Each level only overrides the one above it, so one unusual product never forces a store-wide change.
Nothing left as a dropdown
Any attribute you have not given a swatch type can be auto-converted to button swatches, so a variable product never falls back to a bare select element.

Global defaults
The baseline every attribute inherits.
- Default swatch type — colour, image, label or button
- Default shape — theme default, circle, square or rounded corners
- Swatch size in pixels, applied as a CSS variable
- Tooltip on hover showing the term name
- Show the selected value beside the attribute name
- Auto-convert remaining dropdowns to button swatches
Per attribute
Products → Attributes, then each term.
- Swatch type for this attribute
- Colour picker per term for colour swatches
- Image upload per term for image swatches
- Label text per term for label and button swatches
- Shape for this attribute, or inherit the global default
- Size — inherit, or a custom width and height
Per product
Product data → Variations.
- Override the swatch type for this product only
- Override shape and size for this product only
- Leave on Default to keep following the attribute settings
Fashion and apparel
Colour swatches for the shade, label swatches for sizes. Shoppers read the whole range from the shop archive without opening a dropdown.
Materials and finishes
Image swatches show the actual grain, weave or pattern, which a colour chip cannot communicate for wood, fabric or stone.
Everything else
Button swatches handle capacities, lengths, subscription terms and any attribute where a word is clearer than a colour.
